Nocturne Oasis Exhibition Michael Penny Gallery Diner Opening Bath Spa University

Nocturne Oasis // Exhibition

Nocturne Oasis Exhibition at Bath Spa University

Led by moving-image tech Hannah Moseng-Staff – creator of the

original Nocturne Oasis animation – this exhibition is a concept-

driven presentation of new work made by the Locksbrook technical

staff in response to Moseng-Staff’s robot-populated, fictional

universe.

The exhibition brings this world into physical form through a

collection of objects, materials and constructed elements,

occupying a space somewhere between a film set and a gallery.

All works have been produced entirely using the in-house facilities

available to staff and students at BSU Locksbrook, foregrounding

making, fabrication and technical processes, as well as artistic

interpretation. The works are either set within, or directly reference, the world of Nocturne Oasis – drawing on its themes, visual language and imagery.

Some pieces appear as film-like props made manifest, suggesting

fragments of a larger environment without presenting a complete

narrative. These objects function as standalone works, but

also as contributions to the broader sense of a shared narrative

and setting.

Collaboration is a central theme of the exhibition. Several works

are made through shared processes and across disciplines,

combining materials and techniques, including ceramics, 3D

printing, knitting, embroidery and more. These collaborative works

- as found at the diner booth - highlight the range of artistic and

technical skills available within the Locksbrook workshops and

across the technical team.

Taken together, the exhibition presents an unfolding but

deliberately deconstructed narrative, built through objects,

processes and collective making that together work through a

common theme and shared goal.
